About Urbanixm

The urban knowledge discovery engine

Our mission is to organize the world’s information about urban policy and infrastructure interventions, with a special focus on their impact on the social and environmental sustainability of cities.

We want to help those who make our cities a better place, be it local authorities, urban planners, transport engineers, urban activists, city think tanks and NGOs.

We apply artificial intelligence to curate urbanism information harvested from the web.

Urbanixm was started in 2021 by Börkur Sigurbjörnsson, an information scientist, data engineer and an urbanism enthusiast. During the following two years he ran several cycles of the customer development process, together with prototype development and fundraising activities, with support from the Icelandic Technology Development Fund.

In early 2023 he concluded that while there was interest in the project, there was not sufficient traction to make it into a full time business. While still open for business, the development of Urbanixm is on the back-burner while the founder takes on other revenue generating projects.

While development is slow, take a look at our stories about the impact of selected urban interventions and contact us for exploring collaboration opportunities.
